Base Construction Engineering (BCE)

Purpose 

    • The mission of the Base Construction Engineering branch is to provide infrastructure support to Maritime Forces Pacific, ensuring the Formation is able to optimally generate forces in support of Maritime and Canadian Forces operations.

How we do it  

    • The Base Construction Engineering Officer (BCEO) is responsible for:
      • Management of all Realty Assets
      • Long term development planning
      • Construction and Maintenance of all buildings and municipal works
      • Operation of utility plants and systems

    • Base Construction Engineering (BCE) provides emergency services such as:
      • Emergency repairs
      • Base Urban Search and Rescue Team
        • Hazardous materials (HAZMAT) emergency spill response

    • BCE employs and trains the Pacific Naval Construction Troop (PNCT), the Esquimalt based group of uniformed construction engineers.  The PNCT is operationally deployable for missions in support of the Navy and the Canadian Forces for domestic and expeditionary operations.  BCE staff coordinates long-term realty asset development planning in conjunction with the Chief of Maritime Staff.

    • The BCE department Includes 30 military personnel and 260 civilian personnel.
    • BCE was formed in 1943.  Engineers have served in Esquimalt since 1845, under one flag or another.
